Joe attended The Respiratory Therapy Institute in Florida; Florida Atlantic University in Florida; and Cal State University Long Beach in California. Also in California he attended the Microsoft Computer Systems Engineering program at New Horizons Institute. He is a Certified Clinical Sleep Health Educator with more than 34 years experience in sleep diagnostics & therapy, respiratory care, pulmonary function, and education.
Joe began his career in South Florida as a neonatal respiratory therapist & instructor for a local college and soon expanded his background to include pulmonary function and sleep medicine. In the early 1990's he opened Coastal Medical Supplies in Fort Lauderdale as well as one of Florida's early Independent Physiological Laboratories (Anderson Medical) and was performing sleep screenings and overnight oximetry analysis with several notable business partners including Marriott and Burger King.
In the mid 1990's he took a position in Southern California with Sensormedics as a technical educator which eventually that led to becoming Product Manager for the Somnostar acquisition system during its transition from analog to digital. He found himself traveling throughout the United States and internationally not only representing Sensormedics but also as a clinician, therapist, technologist, and educator. This included places such as Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Brazil, The Czech Republic, Colombia, Canada, Japan, Korea, Australia, East and West Europe, Iceland, and the Caribbean.
In 2001 he accepted the Product Manager position with Sleepmate Technologies, a global sleep bio-sensor company, in Richmond, Virginia. Three years later he was VP of Sales & Marketing and a co-owner of the company. While with Sleepmate Technologies in 2002-2003 he wrote, filmed, edited, and marketed the sleep industries first interactive training modules called The Professional Training Series. In 2002 and 2003 he was an "item writer" (test question writer) for the BRPT's RPSGT exam. In 2006 he developed the industries first sleep podcast series called "Talk About Sleep." He currently sits on the American Board of Sleep Medicine's committee to redevelop the RST credential. In the winter of 2020 look for the next podcast designed for both sleep professionals and patients titled "The Sleep Talk Show."
In 2008 he left Sleepmate Technologies and co-founded Priority Health Education. Over the course of the next several years PHE became the largest non-brick-and-mortar training/education companies in sleep education. Courses and programs were being held across the USA as well as internationally and programs were translated into several languages to meet the international needs of sleep professionals. In 2010 he co-developed and launched the sleep industries first professional sleep education App. This app was made free to allow those that were preparing to sit for their sleep boards to have a portable method of studying for these complex boards.
In recent years he has worked with some California and Virginia based sleep labs as well as the US veterans administration in California, North Carolina, and Virginia in assisting with lab accreditations, tele-sleep development, rural medicine initiatives, research studies, and patient navigator programs. In 2019 he is an included author in the Third Edition of the AAST's text and reference book; Fundamentals of Sleep Technology.
Today Joe lives in Virginia and continues to work in the sleep and EEG field while at the same time continuing his love for developing and teaching many aspects of allied health education. He is also an advocate for the American Sleep Apnea Association.and doing research work for the COPD Foundation.
CANDACE ANDERSON, RPSGT, A.A.
Candace's background is in education. With her degree from Idaho State University she has more than 25 years experience, with 15 of those years specifically in sleep diagnostics and therapy. Candace started her sleep career while working in Customer Support and Sales for Sleepmate Technologies. Over the next several years she expanded her expertise to marketing and trade show development and spending time traveling across the country and internationally to market not only Sleepmate Technologies but also sleep education.
In 2006 she became the executive producer for the industries first sleep podcast series called "Talk About Sleep." In the winter of 2019 she will continue her role as executive producer for the next podcast designed for both sleep professionals and patients titled "The Sleep Talk Show."
Then in 2008 she left Sleepmate Technologies and co-founded Priority Health Education in which she holds the title Chief Operating Officer (COO). Over the course of the next several years PHE became one of the largest non-brick-and-mortar training/education companies in sleep education. Today Candace lives in Virginia and continues her work in Sleep Technology & Sleep Education. She is also expanding the role of the technologists in PAP-NAP programs in many labs across the country..
